Jennifer Broyles DNP, AGACNP-BC
Jennifer graduated nursing in 2006 and worked as an emergency department nurse for almost 9 years, completing her bachelor’s in Nursing in 2009 and masters in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Virginia in 2014. Since that time, she has worked as a full-time nurse practitioner with the SMJH hospital medicine group. She actively participates in the antibiotic stewardship committee and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2020 at UVA by designing and implementing a quality improvement protocol within the SMJH emergency department aimed at reducing urine culture contamination and an ultimate reduction in antibiotic misuse. This study was published in the Journal for Nurse Practitioners in 2020. She has been an active member of the Sentara Advance Practice Provider (APP) council since 2021. She regularly precept NP students and works as clinical faculty at UVA in their AGACNP program, focusing on the clinical aspect of the program curriculum and knowledge application. She also co-leads for the Sentara APP integration committee, advancing the APP role throughout the system to include independent rounding. In 2022 she advanced to Lead APP for hospital medicine at SMJH, a role that encompasses both local campus initiatives as well as within the broader Sentara system. She remains passionate about APP career development and advancement, orientation and onboarding of APPs, and improving networking and outreach of the APP division here at Sentara.
