APP Primary Care - Hyperlipidemia

This module series, which encompasses a wide variety of commonly encountered clinical topics, are specifically designed for the new primary care APP. Key areas of emphasis are on the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions, preventative screenings & vaccinations, and referral indications. Best practices and common evidence-based principles are embedded into these courses. All course presenters are APPs within Sentara, across a spectrum of primary care and specialty areas. After completion of the series, it is expected that the new primary care APP will have a proficient level of clinical knowledge to guide their care of patients, improving quality, safety, efficiency, and patient experience.

1. Implement screening, monitoring, and management strategies for hyperlipidemia in diverse patient populations.
2. Choose the PREVENT ASCVD risk calculator to identify ideal candidates for statin and other intensification therapy.
3. Dissect the various statin potency classes and how to modify or titrate therapy based on treatment goals.
4. Illustrate how the prescribing and adherence to statin therapy for high-risk patients with diabetes and ASCVD effects HEDIS goals and improves outcomes.
5. Select non-statin alternatives to manage those with statin intolerance or who fail to achieve treatment goals on maximally tolerated statin.
