Overview
This course provides an in-depth examination of human trafficking as a critical homeland security and public safety issue. Participants will explore the dynamics of labor and sex trafficking, victim identification, recruitment methods, organized criminal networks, and the social, economic, and psychological impacts of trafficking on individuals and communities. The course highlights the role of federal, state, and local agencies in prevention, investigation, intervention, and prosecution efforts, while emphasizing multidisciplinary collaboration among law enforcement, healthcare providers, social services, educators, and community organizations.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify clinical, behavioral, and environmental red flags associated with trafficking victims who present in hospitals or outpatient settings.
  2. Implement validated screening tools, follow appropriate reporting pathways, and activate Sentara’s internal response procedures when trafficking is suspected.
